Phone Calls With College Coaches 

When can a PSA call college coaches?

June 15th after a prospective student-athlete’s sophomore year of high school athletes are permitted to call coaches and coaches are permitted to call prospective student-athletes.

Phone Call 101

Do:

  • Ask good questions

  • Have an enthusiasm for the college and program. Coaches use these context clues to recruit you or NOT

  • Be easy to get ahold of

  • Ask lots of soccer/program questions first, then get to school

  • Be prepared with good questions and do some research on the program and academics

Do Not:

  • Be somber or unenthusiastic to speak about the program or school

  • Do not talk finances until later

  • Have your parents call or join the call unless asked to do so

Good Questions for College Coaches

  • How do your players do with balancing the academics and soccer?

  • What areas of the program are you working to improve?

  • What is your programs style of play or what is your hope for developing the style into?

  • Have you seen me play and can you provide me some feedback in areas you think I can work on….so I can go work on them and be a more attractive recruit or college player once I get there?

  • Can you talk about this specific area of academics I am interested in?

  • Is there anything about your program I should know that makes your program/school unique?

  • What is your ambition for the program?
