Large Format ID Camps and Showcases

ID camps that feature multiple schools (EXACT, College Showcases, Future500, Masters Camps) can be a good option for a player who is just looking to be noticed. Schools will use these large ID camps as a way for them as college coaches to make a little extra money but also identify some players to track or see more of. This is an important distinction. You will probably not be offered scholarships or recruited solely based on a good performance at one of these large ID camps. Coaches typically have to identify or watch a large number of players in a short amount of time and it is easy to fall through the cracks of this identification or only be in front of a coach for 20 minutes and he or she will not have time to see enough of you.

That being said, these ID camps can get you in front of a large number of coaches and can get you on some recruiting radars so they can be a good option for players who are in the beginning of a recruiting process or not receiving much interest from programs.

Pro Tip: Only attend these large format ID camps if you are hoping to get some interest from programs and always follow up with the coaches after the ID camp asking for feedback or where they are at in their recruiting process with the grad class you are in.

Individual School ID Camps

Have you receive a lot of emails from coaches and programs that want you to attend an ID camp? Most college programs blast large numbers of these emails at good players and teams hoping to get good players interested in their programs and get to work with them at their own ID camps. I like having a player who has narrowed a list down to a few schools to then go ahead and attend an individual programs ID camp upon being recruited to do so. Recruited to do so means, a coach has corresponded with you beyond just blasting you camp emails and has seen you play either on video or in-person. The best programs can even give you feedback on your game film or in-person evaluation of your play from a tournament they saw you in. You can then work on that feedback, gauge the interest of the program and then decide to commit to getting to know the program, school and coaches better by attending an ID camp. Single school ID camps are great for both coaches and players. Coaches can yell at you and have you in a home environment with current players and poke at your and interact with you or pressure test you. You as a player can see how that coaches style is, the camp is likely on campus, meet current players and get a vibe for the culture and program in a way that a phone call or email cannot.

Pro Tip: Only attend ID camps where you are in a recruiting process with a program and they want the chance to work with you and YOU want the opportunity to learn more about the program and school.
